RARHOF is about as useless as any other industry award show... it's who you know and what sells on top 40 radio... I'm surprised anyone on here takes any stock in what they say or sell.

i don't even understand why mellencamp survived at all. who did he blow? i think he's a total waste of time.

the monkees, however, started out as a "fraud" (in los angeles in the mid sixties? that was the story of the entire history of rocknroll) and became a real and important band. that's worth a lot. how many thousands of kids started a band because they watched the monkees?

you folks ever listen to any of their stuff after the initial two records? ya know, they released a shitload more that those two first records. they were recording and releasing and touring for years after they lost that tv show. they actually were one of the earliest and most important purveyors of the style later known as folk rock and the southern california sound. they were actually quite an interesting band. some of the music holds up extremely well even now.

but, the baby boomers will always hate them because the were a "fake" rock band (and they actually believed they were real?) the boomers felt betrayed? hell, the beach boys, the byrds, even (at times) the beatles didn't play their own instruments. and elvis never wrote a song in his life. what fraud?

so, i'm a monkees fan. i'm not embarrassed by it.

I always thought of the Monkeys as disposable label fodder until I heard Porpoise Song.

    pretty good stuff.

i stopped by the rnrhof with my conservative parents in sept. on my way to new york. i had one of those moments where i felt much like i did as a 14 year old and my parents were yelling at me to stop watching mtv.... they hated the hof, ended up waiting for me in the food/gifts area, and said they wished to see more of the oldies. i also feel like a lot of the older influential bands were lacking representation. and yeah.. no monkeys? wtf? the whole thing was basically a waste of our time and money.
