Default The Comic Book Thread

Whenever it was that the Marvel Civil war was going on I had started casually collecting again and that series kinda killed the joy for me. Back in the day I collected a few different Spider-Man titles. X-men before they split into a billion titles, ear;y Avengers, Preacher and the Maxx. As well as a bunch of other random stuff... Stray Bullets, etc...

There's a new shop open a few blocks away from where I work. I'm afraid to go in but I kinda want to. What's good these days? Good stories AND good art.

Jack Staff is kind of a cool british import.

Powers, creator owned book by Brian Bendis is always great.

I like a lot of Kirkman's books -

Anything that Geoff Johns writes is gold - "The Sinestro War" in GREEN LANTERN, JUSTICE SOCIETY is building up to "Kingdom Come" and his reintroductions of both the Legion of Superheroes & Brainiac in ACTION has me reading Superman (plus Gary Frank drawing him like Christopher Reeve) for the first time since the 70's.

Then there's THE BOYS and BLACK SUMMER.

I thought Powers got a bit sucky. I had been following it for a while and then realized I never knew what was actually going on anymore with status quo changes every issue. Like, Walker is now Green Lantern and Deena is an electric vampire? And every second page is a splash page?

Also, I second the Guy Davis thing. There's a really good interview with him in the third issue of Comics Comics, it sports a nice cover he collaborated on with Sammy Harkham.

I used to have a bunch of the late '60s, early 70s Fanatastic Four and Silver Surfer. As a 9 yr old, they really made an impression. Also had lots of Spiderman, Capt America, Nick Fury and his Commandos, etc.

Mom threw them all out, of course, by the time I was 13.

other than Mad Magazine i pretty much find all other comics to be boring.

do you paint all your stuff with brushes or do it on a computer?

as a non comic guy can you tell me how the process works between you and the writer? i've always been interested in the process of making one more than reading them.

If you work on a brand new comic who comes up with what the charactors look like?

is the whole comic book written before you start the art?

what stuff have you done, anything a non comic guy like me would know?
