Go into the email account settings and deactivate all outgoing smtp servers and make sure only the Outgoing smtp Att one is active. You'll have to do it for each account if you have more than one running on your phone. But they should work after that.

mike, i've gotten that sometimes. depends on the data area / coverage.

i won't be able to send something from a certain place, but i move to a different area and it works fine. with wi-fi it's almost never a problem, so i'm guessing it's the 3G/edge network.
