color me not surprised. i'm also always blown away when paul gets a) good comments and b) included in series and other things that seem like only pros should be working with.

i was contacted by the books this summer by a manager dude and we started talking about working together, then he just stopped repsonding to emails (again, after he contacted me initially) and it never moved forward. which, happens often enough lot in this little business. bummer, as it's a band that i would love to work with. and now seeing that paul ended up getting the work pretty much sucks.

and, bands are definitely not stoked about this sort of stuff. how could they be? blows all around.

a. its not said
b. its let go by the masses
c. not noticed

Well then call them the fuck out.
Seriously. Don't just ominously allude to them.
If you're saying there's a double standard, and that's bad, but you don't point out exactly what you mean because of... the status or prestige of the rippers? then you're perpetuating it.

yeah seriously , if you KNOW of rips and aren't calling them out you have no grounds to say there's a double standard 'cause guess what ? you are CAUSING that double standard .

A majority of people here see a big distinction there.

I'd bet those people don't know the full story. I for one am one of those. Now I feel like a complete doofus. I really liked "his" posters. I'd comment here and there, not paying attention to the hoopla. I did kind of half wonder why people were giving him such a hard time. But I usually just hang out in my little happy imaginary world.

I sometimes get annoyed when people comment on posters with a link calling it a "ripoff". Most of the time they're pretty far off. And similarities happen or repurposed to another end as Crosshair mentioned. Nothing new under the sun, as they say.

But this really blows me away that someone could be so blatant. Especially that books one. Not only is it thieving the exact concept, but the layout execution and style as well. You can't even claim he's building upon it. I suspect the blog about the books was created to try and offset some of the ripoff claims. If that is the case than that's really disturbing behavior.

Seems to me it would be alot more satisfying and less of a hassle to just come up with your own original ideas.

i don't know , if the poster is actually produced then used as advertisment or promo it's legit under the guidelines of this site if the artwork is lifted then it's a case for lible but still a legit gigposter ?

It's insulting that guys like this can get good gigs and work with big names. Most of us would love to work for bands like The Books.
Dude should be blacklisted.

Well I'd like to see the examples... Not that I dispute in any way the judgement being made here. But I looked and don't see him listed in the directory of designers. So I'm intrigued to see the blatant shamelessness of this master rip-off artist.

Links? Images? Side-by-sides with victimized posters?
