This new pop-culture interest in embracing "big" is not about "positive body image", it is about "marketing". Most Americans are obese, and about a third are morbidly obese. It's the #1 health problem in the country and the underlying cause of many other healthcare issues (heart disease, diabetes, back problems, the increase in knee related surgery and injuries). And consequently is a major contributor to our rising healthcare costs.

Overweight people, especially "plus size" women, are being held up as new role models under the false guise of "breaking stereotypes" and "positive body image", pseudo-feminist conscientious marketing programs. It's all a load of bullshit. It's about companies wanting to market their products to the ever-exploding demographic of fat people.

This is no commentary on this specific woman. I'm sure she's very charming.

ya'll are correct in one sense - obesity is not healthy.
but 'body image' has nothing to do with 'body type'. realistic body image is realizing that only .2% of the population is born with symmetrical features. the rest of the body image changes from year to year. look at mary pickford versus marilyn monroe.

I agree, was just pointing out that line from the video. I think the size 0 expectation is as ridiculous as anything.

I'd guess that girl does not fit into the obese classification.
