A Bright Idea: Burnouts Painting Burnouts

Alright so I started kicking the idea around after some people expressed interest. I was thinking we could do a series of the painted lightbulbs. I was checking around on Lulu and we get could a 32 page, 8.5 x 11 color perfect bound book for the price of $9.33. I was thinking we could do 30 artists (if that many would be interested), and have 2 pages for a table of contents and a forward or something.

We could then set the price of the book between $15-20 and have all the profit made go to Clay and the site. I haven't used Lulu before, so I don't know all the specifics, but I assume we could just have the money go into Gigposters' paypal account. That way we could order a copy for ourselves at a reasonable price, others could buy it if they wanted to, and in the end it all gives back to our communtiy. We could even then collect all the lightbulbs, have an ebay auction for the collection, and have all that money go to Clay as well.

We would set a deadline of no farther than 1-2 months (but that can be adjusted to the consensus) but I just don't want this to turn out into one of those long drawn out projects that doesn't materialize.

So what does everybody think? Any ideas? Am I getting al lthis Lulu business right? I really would like to give back to this great community, and I think this would be a killer project.

Yeah bro, that would be sooo tight. Lightbulbs would be cool as a central theme, but what if it was open to any kind of art? Jus' sayin...

Anyways, for the book we could also have little bios/ interviews/ explanations with some words upon how we got "burned out," materials used, tools used for getting "burned out"... Just another idea.

Anyways.. collabs would also be killer... anyone in Austin want to chill and make some shit?

well I think that it should definitely be all light bulb related. just remember there are many many kinds of light bulbs out there, and as long you started from there, you could do whatever you wanted with them. and some interviews and stuff could be cool, but I was thinking more along the lines of no-bullshit, just pictures, and artist names and titles.

just nice and simple, letting the big pictures just do all the talking. and I like the tongue-in-cheek title of A Bright Idea: Burnouts Painting Burnouts, but I don't think it should turn into a tell-all book of people's drug and alcohol consumption. that could end up being bad, or actually hampering the book.

but again, as long as it's lightbulb related, you could do pretty much anything, as long as you can take a picture of it. paint them, break them, make a sculpture, and installation, or smoke opium out of them. just let the art do the talking.
