Big FREAKIN deal that the Zepp got back together. I stopped listening to their music when i was twelve and I've heard hundreds of better bands since then. LZ is just one of those bands that they played too us about a million times over the airwaves. Over and over and over and that's why we like them because of that. If they spun ZEKE or Zen Guerrilla over and over and over, they would be classic songs already. Get over it and listen to some new music.
for me... best band ever. despite the annoying vocals. jimmy's slopping playing had some soul. bonham and that big kick drum ruled. presence was my favorite album too. i liked pretty much everything they recorded up to 'in through the out door'--THAT was spotty. and 'the crunge' just plain sucks.
it's always a problem defining whether a band is good or not . zep's RECORDS were always pretty great, still are. but, as a live act, they were spotty at best, generally disappointing and sometimes downright crappy. so, what do ya do, eh?
by the way, i think 85% of bowie's work on record is pretty crummy. his really great 15% is classic, however. zep's batting average in disk is about 85% classic and 15% crap. so, there you have it, a scientific approach.
Country Dick Montana, from The Beat Farmers, died that way. He was in the middle of singing "The Girl I Almost Married," then went boom. When they played in Lexington 20 years or so ago, some dude up front was drinking a beer, but the show was on a college campus where alcohol is prohibited. Country Dick spotted him, went to the edge of the stage and sat down, took off his cowboy hat and held it out of the security guards' view, poured the beer into his hat, chugged it, put on the dripping hat, and went back to playing drums.
Country Dick was pure class
as far as bowie goes, I like his work from 1970 to 1980, all the stuff from Man Who Sold the World to Scary Monsters.
before and after that is utter shite, imho lol omg wtf etc.
i once saw iggy introduce "little iggy" to the crowd. it was the same night/performance when the drum kit caught on fire. go figger.

ALL the stuff? geez, you got some staying power. a lot of that stuff i find unlistenable.
he was usually good for one or two tracks per lp. then you could toss the rest out. once in awhile he would score higher, but man, there's a lot of drek in his career.
for instance 'heroes' may be the greatest 1/2 record in history. i don't think anyone ever listened to the 'other' side more than once.
