The Devil's Cups seemed more deserved. I HATE the Devils but love Marty so much I can't be bummed when they win. Aside from Broduer I can't think of a Devil in the history of the team I actually like. Aside from Claude Lemiuex. He was the Red Wing punisher so he gets credit.

People who drive cars aren't "athletes"...sorry. Just like people who ride horses.

STEERING isn't a sport.

I don't know about atheleticism in a funny car, but I think motorcycle road racers are pretty amazing as far as physical/mental/skill sets go. these guys come off all the time at high speed.

I guess since I know some NHRA drivers I can disagree. Try going 0 to 300 MPH in 3 seconds and managing to keep the car straight. Those dudes are in about 1000x better shape than even you. No easy task. The G's on take off and when the chute blow are enough to put most people straight into the hospital. And NHRA guys don't even have to really "streer" all that much.

I kind of agree though. Not really athletes so much as bad ass humans. Much like Astronauts. All said though you have to be in shape and have your shit together for real.

as much as i hate lemieux, he did find himself with some winning organizations. plus the wings FINALLY gave it to HIM on 03/26/97 and again in the conference finals that year.

Oh, I'm sure it's not easy...and takes some physical stamina, fitness...but calling race car drivers, athletes is a stretch. People who participate in competitive rope jumping are more of an athlete than race car drivers / jockeys / golfers.

competitive rope jumpers don't get killed or maimed when they make a mistake. that counts for something.
