A template file is just that...a template file. It sounds like they had their shit kinda retarded, but you were kinda retarded as well in sending a file for them to print with a red line you didn't want to print.
Did you think they had some sort of magic red line remover?
my business card looks exactly like a template file.
Thats the first time in my life i've created anything with a template file. So .. I just followed their instructions. It shouldn't matter how retarded I am if I followed the instructions.
Of course I thought it was strange to send in the file with the red line - but they never said to remove it.
So much for "the customer is always right".

I've been using 4colorprints for about 4 1/2 years... I always send them a flattened photoshop file... Perfect prints and quality all but one time... the customer service was pretty harsh ( I think it's the language barrier, their Eng-rish was a bit rough and I speak Hillbilly crackhead english ) but they still fixed it and didn't require me to send back the run... I had to send them one of the bad ones and one of the old ones that I liked... done, no problems. And I got to keep the other run... Free stuff is always a bonus.
I'm actually about to place a pretty big order with them this week... we'll see how it goes.

If you don't have time to do it right... when are you gonna have time to fix it? http://www.gigposters.com/designers.php?designer=6750 Check it...
ok adressing the redline - whenever i've sent files for stickers or buttons, and CD templates there are bleed marks etc. that are on the file but are not to be printed.
clay isn't that what you are talking about? they printed their own template markers?
i like fun.

I always stay away fron the redline because the motor breaks...
that keyline box on designs is a pain because most (rookie) designers leave it on, and then when i get film output from supplied files i always have to block it out. happens a lot. my daughter the book designer learned the hardway on one of her first 'big' jobs - did a cover for a national bestseller and it had black boxes around the front back and spine art. Printers in Hong Kong just printed it.
Nobody noticed cept her and the art director, they fixed it on the second run. she learned the hard way.
the distance between the computer screen and the reality of the print shop is a long one.
why are you dickwads doing something other than screenprinting?
