I have no need for this. No beat matching in punk rock.

takes the hunt out of getting certain records, and it could be said that those once hard-to-find jams lose a lot of their holy grail appeal. definitely a nod to the immediacy of a culture absorbed with archiving and spreading itself. that said, my thoughts at times are archaic. in the same discussion, i can easily heap praise upon a model of distribution and community which allows a kid in alaska to make perfect baltimore tunes and get them thrown into a mix by a kid in australia, to be downloaded by another kid in canada.

ultimately, yes. "DJing" is a progressive thing, and that includes new technology, whether purists like that or not. pitch control was at one time a new technology.
i'm into ms.pinkys.

Default Serato...

I've used Serato Scratch Live for the last year or so, and I wouldn't use anything else. It is ROCK SOLID. I run it with a Mac PowerBook G4 1.5ghz w/1gb of RAM, and 2 external firewire drives with all of my music. I haven't had one problem. I used to get smacked with extra baggage charges when I traveled, but not anymore! 6000+ songs in my backpack. Don't believe the hype on all of the other imitators, Serato is the way to go.
<br>
And to reply to some of your comments... Serato has no "automatic beat match" function. If you use it like I do, or most DJs for that matter, you do all of your pitch adjustments with the turntable's pitch control. As for "taking the hunt out of certain records"... I still collect vinyl vigorously. Except now I only have to record a rare record once, and I can play it millions of times with no wear and tear.

COOL this is how i would be using it. I have tables, had em for 8+ years, but couldnt use them for a long time as i was away at school.

Now I am deciding between serato, torq (probazbly going with serato) or cdj's

Question, any mixer (like a djm800) all the effects it has will run/translate.work through seratoi right?

I'm glad this came up! I recognize how powerful a tool it is, and there are some that argue about how it's killing vinyl. My friends Co-op and Hunnicutt use it on the regular.

Its practical vs traditional, and considering i have about 15000 songs digitally that I dont have on vinyl I think its well worth it.

Plus I get a laptop out of it. SWEET.

any effect you can put on your line/phono output will still work. I'm assuming the effects are built in to your mixer. I use a Rane TTM-56. Btw, I had the CDJ-1000's for a while and sold them to get the Serato system and some RAM for my PowerBook. Best thing I ever did... CDJ's are alright but NOTHING like vinyl. And it seemed like I was burning new cds everyday.
