Stereo is still skater owned and operated... going on 15 years now. Chris Pastras and Jason Lee. Who can forget PD and SKULL SKATES!

Well, Stereo was shut down for a long time to be fair...so not exactly 15 years. But, yeah Stereo is awesome. It's been so long since i followed the industry I dont know who is and who isnt skater owned anymore. I just assumed the whole industry was bought out by now.

I'm not sure it's any one type of skater. It's pretty much across the board, no pun intended. There's some really good articles out there about how Nike has affected the industry, and a good bit of it is pretty positive. They've actually brought in a bunch of money to brick and mortar shops, more customers buy Nike than Etnies, Es, etc etc. They have a good team and seem to be doing things correctly, despite their corporate image. I would never own a pair of them, but I'm glad to see stores are benefiting from it.

Fair enough I guess. I just like to blame the mesh skaters for everything bad in skateboarding over the last 15 years.

It's really weird. I look at the skate industry these days and it is all owned by big companies and stuff. Not much skater owned and operated anymore.
Most board, truck, hardware, and wheel companies are still skater owned and operated. It's mainly shoe companies that aren't skater operated, but there's still quite a few that are. DVS, Lakai, Fallen, Duffs, to name a few.

And I'm bummed to see Koston leave Lakai for Nike. Total cash maneuver.

Ugh, that's news to me. And sad news at that.
Koston was one of the first names I learned when I started skating. His first model shoes on eS were so rad.

I had those army green and orange Kosten's. Cant remember if they were K1 or K2 but they were the sickness. And WOW to Koston leaving Lakai. How much money does the dude need? I heard he just made a fucking KILLING on shoe royalties from eS. Like, scary money.
