popped in the first weekend.. looks great... neat stuff

Going to look at this winters project... a 1973 BMW R75/5... going to make it a street beast if I can talk him down a bit... should not be that hard... mostly cosmetic really... the whole rear frame bolts off so the only fabricating I will have to get will be a small frame extension for the seat and rear fender, fenders and a set of pipes, pair of shocks and tires... plus I can ride it out as is for the rest of the summer... and I can probably sell off the seat, bags and fairing to help fund the rebuild!

Agreed. And i have a friend just bought a '71 600/5 would probably buy the bags and fairing.

all depends what I can get the bike for... looks real nice... they run forever and well taken care of... he is asking $2500... I am going to go in for $2000... probably another $1700-$2000 in parts and finish and calling in a lot of favours and it could be reality.

I had a /2, /6, and now the RT. after many brit bikes, I think I'll stick with the BMWs....never let me down

they go and go, and the price has stayed pretty good on the older ones.

2-2500 is a good price if it runs good. /5 models have lots of parts and spares around and are very simple/easy to work on.

Yeah... I was poking around looking at maintenance vids and posts... everything seems pretty straightforward and accessible...

Looks like a fun project. I ALMOST bought a CB750 the other day to start a project, then realized my wife would kick me out and it's not a big enough bike to use as a shelter on the streets.

Yeah... those CB750s are beasts... I just helped a buddy put one together with another friend of ours... we decided to take the engine out one night with just the two of us and few beers and nearly killed ourselves... that is a big lump... it turned out nice... his inspiration was a pint of Guinness so cream and black overall... we wrapped the exhaust, pounded the tank, made a new seat and he bought a bunch of bolt on aluminum go-fast parts... which I am not a huge fan of but it's not my bike... but parked next to my RD it is a behemoth...

well I picked it up on the weekend for $500 less than he was asking, just got it safetied... bike is a two owner bike, the guy I bought it from and his uncle... brand new tires, clutch, rear section tailpipes, rear shocks, front springs, rebuilt carbs last year, blah, blah... the only thing is it idles a bit high, and I don't want to mess with these Bing carbs... if they were Mikunis, no problem... but I found a guy in Toronto who is a former BMW race mechanic who works and races these old airhead models and he charges $35 an hour... SCORE! so I am going to have him fiddle with the carbs... and maybe give it a once over...

Already started the transformation... new bars, removed the fairing and rear rack, I will ride it with the bags and seat as is for the summer and then get to business over the winter.
