my granddad is some sublevel of those shipnerds. he builds model ships that take years to complete. his workshop is insane. he's had to build many of the tools he uses to build the model because they don't exist. everything is done by hand - cutting wood, casting metal parts, etc. he spent 4 years on a model of one of the flagships for the texas navy, think it was the Austin. the plans of the ship had been lost to history so he spent a year researching it's sister ship's plans he got from a shipyard archive out of Massachusetts. that model is ending up in a texas navy museum now.Quote:
