if i'm not mistaken, that's the hunley, the civil war submarine that was found off the coast of south carolina a few years back. went to see it a while ago at the naval base where it's being preserved. pretty crazy to think that people actually volunteered to get into what was basically a converted iron boiler and hand crank it across the harbor and ram it into a blockade boat.
