I disabled anything that has to connect to the web and everything sped right up.

Like...all I wanted to use was the calculator but I'd have to sit there for a minute and wait for all that useless crap about the weather and whatnot to load just to add a couple numbers. I threw everything but the calc away and everything on my computer sped up a bit.
