It's called a "mondo" film (after MONDO CANE)... an exploitive documentary where some/much/all of the footage is staged or fake. Most of FACES OF DEATH is faked but there are a few real scenes.

A better film to watch in this vein would be THE KILLING OF AMERICA.

Thanks Plantweed! That site is too cool. I'm gonna have to get the DVD of this. A few of the "Freaks" and "Potheads" that went to my high scholl are in that flick. I missed that bit on the VH1 special. i gotta tune in for that again. This is really awesome how it's grown. Power to the People! Thanks again for the link!

Instrument Rules!! Love the part where Guy climbs up the basketball hoop and hangs upside down from the rim. Great flick! The shots and interviews of the fans waiting in the lines is cool too.
