There are a number of pretty depressing music docs that i've caught, and not ones where you were expecting it. The Friends Forever movie is fairly depressing, since it just two folks traveling around with dogs that vomit everywhere, and playing shows in carparks before being moved on and shouted at.
'The Power of Salad' about Lightning Bolt is a fairly bleak affair also.
ha ha / sheeesh. wow. i'd like to see the Lightning Bolt film for sure, even still.

The End of the Century was really eye-opening for the way that the band still sort of held together even though like...all love was lost between Joey & Johnny. even after Joey's death, that scene where Johnny couldn't just admit that he freakin loved the man...jeeeze.

edit to add: i m a huge huge fan of music documentaries that reveal people who, were it not for rock'n'roll or jazz, would have been complete misfit failures as human beings. it's always really cool to see someone who was born to be this one specific thing and that one thing only.

Dee Dee's life is a real roller coaster ride of ups and downs. If you like reading autobiographies read his.

Have you seen 'This is Not a Photograph' about the Mission of Burma reunion? It's a really good film, i guess that it helps if you love MoB, but it's watchable regardless.
I've got the DVD of the one about They Might Be Giants that is s good watch, if you enjoy watching people REALLY nerd out over a band.

Default Here's some more....

I got a bunch that I thought were both insightful and really well done films, but I'm only going to list a couple:

God Stopped at Ebola
Jesus Camp- This one messed me up. The shit that they put these kids through is sick.
The Corporation- Everybody's probably seen it but it still makes the list. It's just damn good
The Devil and Daniel Johnston
Grizzly Man
Paradise Lost- I did a benefit for these guys
One Day in September

i think my grandparents spent every weekend in 1960 las vegas doing parties and pills. the old footage looked like them.
