Awhile ago I watched The Life of Reilly, an autobiographical stage show that Charles Nelson Reilly did in the last year of his life. Don't laugh, dude was a tremendous storyteller and had a very interesting and kind of tragic family life. Very moving.
watched "corman's world" tonight. really interesting and pretty funny bio of him. it's pretty amazing the people who worked with him really early in their careers (jack nicholson, martin scorcese, etc...)
B-movie maestro Roger Corman is celebrated in this star-packed documentary. While trafficking in movies featuring lots of blood, violence and nudity, Corman nonetheless managed to tackle issues like race and sexism with his independent features. Luminaries including Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Robert De Niro and Jonathan Demme offer their reflections on the legacy of this purveyor of thrills and chills.
watched "30 for 30: the band that wouldn't die" yeasterday. pretty well done. this is the second one of these ESPN 30 for 30 docs that i've seen, and i'm really liking the series.
In late March of 1984, a moving company secretly packed up the Baltimore Colts’ belongings and its fleet of vans sneaked off in the darkness of the early morning. Leaving a city of deeply devoted fans in shock and disbelief. What caused owner Robert Irsay to turn his back on a town that was as closely linked to its team as any in the NFL? Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barry Levinson, himself a long-standing Baltimore Colts fanatic, will probe that question in light of the changing relationship of sports to community. Through the eyes of members of the Colts Marching Band, Levinson will illustrate how a fan base copes with losing the team that it loves.
I think you'll like this one if you lived in the 70s.

watched "visual Acoustics: the modernism of julius shulman" last night. really interesting beginners look at modern architecture and the photographer that brought it into the spotlight.
Filmmaker Eric Bricker directs this fascinating documentary about the life and times of architectural photographer Julius Shulman, whose work is known for helping to launch the careers of giants like Rudolf Schindler and Frank Lloyd Wright. With insight from fellow architects Frank Gehry, Ricardo Legorreta and Shulman himself, Bricker's effort illuminates the legendary artist's gift for capturing space, form and design.
"Resurrect the Dead - The Toynbee Tiles Mystery" is hands down the most captivating doc I've watched in a loooong time. Other than The Radiant Child, but Basquiat is my favorite artist, so I'm being biased.
