Didn't someone on here have a similar issue with the Gourds? How was that settled?

If you wish I can try to call the plagues of Egypt down upon them and their houses. I've never actually done it before, but I'll try.

"An artwork is normally assessed in quality by the amount of stimulation it brings about. The impact it has on people, the number of people that can relate to it, the degree of their appreciation, and the effect or influence it has or has had in the past, all accumulate to the 'degree of art.' Most artworks that are widely considered to be "masterpieces" possess these attributes." - Frank Kozik

1. Have you registered your art with the Copyright Office? If no, then do it.

2. Try to negotiate a price for using your art.

3. If they blow you off get a lawyer and file suit. Your work must be registered with the Copyright Office before a suit is commenced. Registering your work allows you to claim of statutory damages ($150,000 for each item) and attorneys’ fees under the Copyright Act.

can you copyright a type treatment of a band name that you weren't commissioned to create by the band or label? (i'm assuming...)??

the majority of this gigposter stuff is through venues and promoters, and isn't approved officially by the label or band. so, before i copyright my 'vision' of 'band x', wouldn't i be in copyright violation first, just for creating it?

i'm dumb.

Can you just register with "the Copyright Office" and get like a blanket copyright on all the work you have done and all the work you'll ever do... or do you have to register each and every piece? If so, what does this cost a guy?
I've noticed a lot of artists sign their shit with a copyright mark but is it official?

I don't think you really need to be copyrighted, you can't just rip off peoples artwork.

You have to register each item with the Copyright Office. The easiest way would be to save all of your art to a CD and register the CD which would then protect all of your art work.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

To register a claim to copyright in a work, send the following three elements in the same envelope or package to:
Library of Congress Copyright Office
101 Independence Avenue, S.E.
Washington, D.C. 20559-6000

1. A nonrefundable filing fee of $30* for each application;
2. A nonreturnable deposit (copy) of the work for which registration is being made; and
3. A properly completed application form.

Heres a link for photographers on how they can easily register their work:

http://www.sethresnick.com/photograp...tregister.html

The bottom line is if you are serious about your protecting your rights you need to be proactive and have a good record keeping system.
