has anybody else noticed the news coming out of najaf for the last few days? it seems the iraqis in that city have begun systematic full-bore assaults on our nearby base. they essentially have taken the offensive.

interesting. we have been playing a defensive game for months and months.

saddam said even before the "war" started that all they have to do is start sending amewricans home in bags and we will leave. they think we are cowards. i think they will just wait us out and keep the tally growing. then they will win. it's the same tactic over and over. and it works great on americans.

for the last two or three days, the city of najaf has begun a massive assault on that base. and the press and the politicians barely give it any play.

the longer the occupation lasts, the better it is for business.

this is the result of our forces using small scale 'nice guy' tactics.

it is not indicative of anything remotely resembling the full ability of our military, same as in Vietnam or whatever.

we COULD go in there with massive air and rocket strikes and a full on multi-divisional assault and wipe it from the face of the earth. But that would mean hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties, so it is not done.
