Default What's reasonable to charge for cutting?

We don't have a cutter in the house. I thought I had a good setup with a larger, local offset shop to do our cutting where they typically did it for free and a poster or a small charge but they just nailed me with $30 for cutting a stack of about 60 posters. It takes them 10 minutes or less. Unreasonable? Seems like it to me.

Guess we need to buy a cutter but what would you charge if someone asked you for this?

Cutting could cost you your life depending on the direction.

Really, $30 is BS for what I assume is no more than 2 cuts. ~$5 at best.

Bake them a batch of cookies to warm em back up to ya next time you bring your posters. Save a few for yourself of course. If that doesn't fix it, fuckem.

Ironically the FedEx Office (Kinko's) down the street from me has the nicest cutter in town. They charge me $1.50 for each cut. There's a local pre-press place that has a big cutter that I use for larger stuff that charges like $2.20 per cut. Assuming that you're giving them posters that are all printed in the same registration and not all "freestyle 'n shit" this shouldn't be more than a fistful of wampum bro. I would have questioned the $30.00 to see what the deal was and how you could make it cheaper.

We charge $30 minimum on jobs. Anything over 30" we have to take somewhere else to have cut, which is even more expensive.

$1.50 a cut won't even cover the blade change if you only charge that until the blade dulls.

When we first started out we did the same thing you did and it was $15 per job, and it took at least 36 hours.

Cutting stuff for other people kinda is a raw deal. The cutter is a takes up real-estate, requires maintenance and ultimately you are to blame if you miss cut somebody's work. We cut stuff down for people if they bring some beer by which admittedly increases the risk involved

$30 dollars aint bad. Consider yourself lucky you don't have to have the machine. I'm sure it'll be a bit cheaper if you do more work with them. Also build the cost into the price of the poster.

Ive had to use a few different places throughout the years when our cutter was down. Cost anywhere from $0-$60 per job but most places charged $40 flat or $5 per cut
