Don't know if this helps, but I got an e-mail today for an offer to buy Smith Micro's Font Pak Pro for $50. From their website:
A premier collection of over 1000 classic, refined, designer and creative style fonts, including a 5-computer license to use the fonts in a variety of for-profit, commercial or personal projects across your organization. All fonts are available in OpenType® format and work in all applications including Quark, Adobe, Microsoft, iLife, iWork and more.
The OpenType® font format provides a single cross-platform compatible font file for easy font management and improved document portability between the Mac and PC platforms; ability to embed fonts into PDF projects; superior print quality; and improved language support with an expanded set of international characters including the Euro currency symbol.

I don't have a lot of experience buying fonts, and this could be a case of you get what you pay for (in which case, what is the value of a font?), but I might give it a try.
EDIT: Did another search and found that in January you could have bought this for a whole dollar (though they tried to auto-bundle other stuff with it in the checkout cart) and that today you can get FontPack Pro Master Collection (6200+ fonts) for $50 through MacAppSale if you're on a Mac. Includes some other stuff you may or may not want.
