Default Looking to buy a tablet & a digital camera

I have about $1500 to spend. I want to buy my wife a nice tablet and a nice digital camera.

Just looking for some feed back and the reason to or not to buy certain tablets or cameras

    Getting a new camera
this was a good thread that i used before buying my camera.

i ended up getting a nikon d3000 and for now it's pretty good for what i do. don't go super expensive on the camera and don't buy the package deals with multiple lens, the bag, etc. get a good body and a good started lens.

don't look for a camera with 50 different preset picture modes. instead spend the money to get her a one day digital camera class. money well spent.

My wife has an iPad 2 and I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 a couple of weeks ago.
If you've got the money to spend, go for the iPad since I can't really say anything bad about it. That said, I prefer the 8.9 for 90% of what I do. It's smaller and lighter, just as responsive, allows for multitasking apps, and is $100 cheaper. The 10.1 is a bit larger and can be found for even less money once you start looking at refurbs. Really depends on your OS preference and since both are due for updates (iPad to the 3 and Android honeycomb to ice cream sandwich) it'll be a good time to shop.

You get a lot of camera for your money these days.
The entry level Canon and Nikon dslrs are great cameras that will do everything you need, and more. They are far superior to dslrs that would have cost twice as much, five years ago.
The Canon Rebel T2i is under $600.

Do NOT buy cameras or optics from ebay or sketchy online stores that offer the lowest prices.
Buy from a reputable source like B&H or Adorama. B&H has great service and a great returns policy.

Don't know if you are looking for a full dslr camera with lenses or something a little more portable, but if you are looking for something a little less bulky but has alot of manual features but can still act as a point and shoot I suggest the Panasonic DMC-LX5... I have had the the LX1 and just got the LX5 and it really is nice. Nice price for the camera, has a Leica lens, can be as auto or manual as you want and is alot easier to carry around than a full dslr camera.

micro 4/3s like what dspring posted are the way to go imo. i have a lumix gf1 and i like the image quality more than any canon slr i've ever had, and it fits in my backpack quite nice. the gf3 looks awesome to me, even more compact but still with system lenses. supposedly, people like lumix more for better video quality and people like olympus pen cameras more as still cameras.

B&H is the best place ever. My family has been buying stuff from there since the 70s.

I have the Lumix LX5 and I love it. It's like a poor man's Leica (The lens is a Leica). It's great for travel, family and creative.
I use an older Nikon D80 at work - I like the Nikon DSLR's. I use this one with a fast lens for events.
