So sad to see Kodak nearing bankruptcy. They were one on the most important companies in the development of my career. It's ironic that they invented the technology that drove them out of business.

I'm sure this isn't the death of Kodak completely - more likely it will break up into smaller, specialized groups to better handle the smaller business each unit can support.

My grandfather was an optical physicist and a lifer at Kodak, including during the war when he developed bombsights and non-specular aircraft paint.
If Kodak goes extinct it will be sad but... They are a textbook case of how NOT to adapt to a changing marketplace and technology.
My second digital camera was a Kodak. I think the mistake they made there was ignoring high-end cameras and putting out instamatic clones when their competitors were putting out feature-rich products.

Their biggest mistake was not making a cellphone lol.

Thats a bummer to hear. My uncle just gave me a big chunk of his 35mm film camera collection...three Canon New F-1's, four Canon A-1's, two Canon T90's, a Canon EOS 620 and an EOS 650. Plus a bunch of lenses. I have an associates degree in photography and havent had any good equipment since mine got stolen back in '05 or so. I used to really like Kodak T-Max film. I'm planning on building a little B&W darkroom in the basement...hopefully they'll pull out of this downturn and I'll still be able to buy T-Max!
I hope that we can still buy film in a decade but it doesn't look good.

Sucks but it looks like film will go the way of Lumiere autochrome plates.
