    Default Gig details?

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the website and interested in submitting some designs. However I'm somewhat confused about adding gig details to a poster, do I just find an upcoming gig and add all the details to it? Or do I have to ask permission from the band?

    Thanks

    Stephen

Your submissions have to be commissioned for you, as a designer, by the bands, venues, promoters, record labels, for REAL shows, and REAL bands and so forth.

So, if I am understanding your questions...no. NO.

You cannot just make a poster image/design and then find local or otherwise info to populate it.

And yes, you have to get permission from the bands. We are all professional gig poster artists who submit work here, with the exception of the occasional fan-art piece that manages to get through, and trust me, you don't want that pain.

We work with the bands and their managers, the venues that they play, and their record labels to get the gigs for which, we create posters.

So, the designs that you are thinking about submitting have to be legitmate posters, meaning: done for the bands, with their approval, and so forth.

Otherwise you are submitting bootleg designs which are HEAVILY not OK, and can not only get you a free walk of fire with the other legit poster artists here, but can get you into hot water with said bands right quick.

I hope that clears things up?

But, you may make Phish posters whenever you like for any show.

    heh.

i really honestly wasn't trying to be dickish...

there is just a TON of misinformation and mis-understanding about gig posters, so i wanted to lay it out there nice and clear.

and sadly, you'd be AMAZED (or maybe not) at how often i get asked to fudge a poster for a private commission, and usually the budget is $20 and the customer wants it for a wedding/birthday/anniversary that happened last week.

actual gig posters aren't a part of the crap-out-some-phrase-in-random-giantassed-type-and-call-it-meaningful-art thing that is so hot, so cheap, so under-designed, and so overplayed. however, too many people think they are one in the same. boooo.
