Default The Historic Southgate House closing as of 2012

    it is a sad day.

I was honored to do posters for several shows at the Southgate House and it was one of my favorite all-time venues. Saw an amazing Hold Steady show where they invited the crowd on stage and the Silversun Pickups who truly blew me away.

home of the best heckle i ever received. some hick in the balcony sort of up near the stage was shouting some shit at me, and i made fun of him somehow. his reply was "REAL FUNNY, FUNNY MAN." the whole place basically stopped, and i said "yes, real funny, funny man" into the microphone, and somehow it worked as a pretty good burn. not sure i'm telling the story very well.

we also once posted dianogah stickers on top of every other bands' stickers in the men's bathroom there. no other band names were to be seen when we were done.

sorry to see this place go. it's a good one.

I saw a lot of shows there when I was in High School. One particular stand-out was Screaming Trees and the Meices. I remember calling my parents from a payphone to tell them I wouldn't be making curfew because the show was just too good.

“While we are deeply saddened to close 24 E. Third St., it’s been a great run and it’s been a great privilege to be the steward of such a grand building all these years but I just cannot deal with all the stickers everywhere,” Raleigh said in a news release. “There have been many great memories made here, but the history is in the people and the music, not just a sticker covered building, and the show must go on.”

I was at that Hold Steady show. I think. Maybe Brian Cricketpress can confirm.
