    Default GP iPhone app

    G'day everyone

It has been a while since I posted on here, I've been busy with moving to Amsterdam. Now that I am settled in I wanted to get some input from the GP guys on a project I've been pondering for a while.

The (very few) people that know me on here know that I am not a printer / designer; but merely a fan of good art + music. I've found myself accessing GP from my iPhone more and more, and not just the forum. I have seen a threat on here a while back regarding an iPhone app - I was wondering what you guys would expect / like to see from such an app.

I did some brainstorming and came up with a few points - any input would be appreciated:

    - it would have to be partially web based, especially for artist portfolios, with the amount of posters on here it would be impossible to cramp all the images into a non-web app, so an internet connection would be required
    - forum access
    - shop section (still pondering how that could be included)
    - artist of the month maybe?
    - wallpaper downloads of posters if the artist(s) are cool with it
    - celebrity death of the month (wink wink Naked Rob...just kidding...maybe a link to TMZ though)

Accessing the forum from an iPhone is easy thanks to apps like Tapatalk (don't know if that's how you spell it), I'd also be aiming for the artistic aspect. Thanks to the book being sold at places like Urban Outfitters more and more people are interested in gig posters, and the app store is an amazing platform with a huge market. Which leads me to the next question: it would be a project for me, not a job. So I am not looking to get paid (maybe get laid, but that's it), should this be a free app (ad free obviously)? Or should it be a 99 cent thingy with the proceeds going to GP / artists / hookers & blow...thoughts?

This obviously isn't something that I could pound out within a few days, so at this point I am looking for opinions and mainly suggestions. If anyone wants to be part of the UI design please let me know. I'd also need some suggestions for an icon design, but that's last.

Anyways, queue the jokes that GP is known for, but also try to help me out a little bit...I am just trying to contribute a little bit

    Cheers!

If you could help out with this, that would be awesome! I would love to have an iOS app to view posters quickly, comment and integrate with the forums. I just haven't had the money to make it happen (or a mac to make one myself). Hit me up at help@gigposters.com if you want to discuss it further. Thanks!

As an artist that posts in the process threads regularly, It would be awesome to figure out a way to snap some photos on my phone and upload them straight to a process post as I'm working on it. Not something everyone would want, but would be a cool feature if it is remotely doable.

Just being able to post pics straight from your phone to the forums would be awesome... for a number of reasons

That's a great idea. I have a few days off next week, so I'll be getting in touch with Clay then to see what he would like. Keep the ideas coming, I'm pumped about this.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    Features?

    Yeah, this:
Artfinder's fine art image recognition iPhone app - YouTube

Actually, just kidding. As a gig-poster, by nature it will have almost any information you need right on the poster.
    Completely redundant.

And anything it didn't have, you could find by searching the band — if the poster showed up in the database by name, then you would have all the rest of the information (like artist's contact info) and if it isn't in the database by artist, then it wouldn't come up with an image recognition search anyway.

I've already talked myself out of it.

Being able to browse through New Arrivals and make comments (or any other section really) in a cover flow-like flip through manner would be cool.

fast upload from photo and vid to thread or submission would be fantastic...featured artists, how would that work? how about a gps function that displays posters for shows that happen within a radius of your phone? that would be awesome. something like that would set it apart from just being on the gp site itself.
