hmm. i think that might just be a stock photo. i would be up for it if it were part time and based out of their austin office.
Here's one from when Obama did a town hall there a few months back:
Hack Hope | The Graphic Works of Ben Barry
Can't find pics of others, but they adorn all the walls. Hack this hack that blah blah. Like those corporate inspirational lithos that were all the rage way back when.
what the hell with the Hope/ Hack thing? are they basically calling him a hack? i obviously am missing something.
no no.
"hack" and "hacking" has taken a somewhat negative connotation in the mainstream, though engineering types generally use it as a catch-all term for playing around with code. "hackathons" that include all-night coding parties are a common thing down here, both at Facebook and in the Valley.
hope/hack was just commemorating Obama's visit to facebook, where he did a town hall mtg in april. Since facebook continually encourages its engineers to "hack" their guts out -- i.e. to work their asses off coding -- it's basically a company motto.
hence the merger of the two. "hope" motto meets "hack" motto when obama comes to FB.
thank you Geek... i mean Mike.
truly, i would have never have known that and been pissed at fb for being so disrespectful.
Obama is a hack!
i am saying that aside from political feelings, the visit was obviously set up as a friendly one. the most common/ non-geek use of 'hack' in that situation would be fairly combative or insulting.
