Default Artist's and Graphic Designer's Market book

Anyone use this thing? Or more importantly, got a good gig from it?
Combing through it right now and I'm finding a lot of landmines and horrible stipulations from some companies. Who the hell would do work for someone who states "payment upon acceptance". What? Some places even offer $5 per illustration. Is that normal? That won't even cover the cost of printing off a tear sheet or postcard to mail them. Should I just throw this thing in the garbage?

I've just begun to get paid up front for almost everything and people all around town want and trust me, yay!

    Edit: Fuck books!

Yeah muh'. Seems the best way is how I've been doing it all along: word of mouf, where you can control the contractual side of things and totally rip people off and charge for more than you're actually worth. Nah' mean?
Slangin' rocks never looked so tempting...

I've typically used this as my pricing resource for things not poster related:
    Graphic Artists Guild - Handbook
I just read this year's blurb about not lowering your prices just because of the economy and how everyone else is lowering their prices.
