Default Need some advice on repainting and refinishing aluminum awning.

    Exciting I know.

    1. how do we get the old paint off?
    2. do we leave it up there or take it down to refinish it. (it's not easy to get to so would be hard).
    3. what kind of paint do we use or should we get it powder coated?
    4. does anyone want to help?

I second the take it down/powder coat option. Although an epoxy-based enamel would last just as long being aluminum doesn't rust.

    Nice place.

I'd take it down, but skip the powder coat. Powder coating requires an oven and 300-1000 degree temps. So first you'd have to find someone with a big enough oven THEN you'd have to be sure that the metal didn't fatigue/warp at the elevated temps required. Your best bet is a chemical paint stripper (make sure it's aluminum safe) then enamel that bitch.

If it were mine... I'd have it copper plated then clear coated. That would look sick on that house. Great place by the way.
