Please explain how this could possibly be true. What basis can this statement be made from? I fail to see how it would be better than any other teams getting to the finals. The original 6 era ended 42 years ago. There are 24 other teams in the league now in case you weren't paying attention. There has been for a number of years.
yeah! and i'm sick that there are teams left in canada when san diego, houston, new orleans, and santa fe could use a team!
f tradition. i drink pepsi!
it would be good for the fans of the original 6 teams. not for me so much, as i am rooting for the sharks and i hate the blackhawks, but i am sure there are some old time fans who would enjoy an O6 final... however, i've hated the hawks since 1966. i guess an O6 final vs an expansion team final really means nothing more to the NHL than a trip down memory lane. the revenues would likely be close to the same. then again, chicago, montreal and boston are all much larger markets than san jose, so who knows? for me, it would just be nostalgic. i enjoy the history between the O6 teams. it's a rich heritage that goes back to the 1920s. i mean the wings have faced the hawks something like 7-800 times.
maybe i should just get over it. hell, the maple leafs aren't even in our conference anymore, which is a damn shame. i should've gotten a clue when they did away with the wales and campbell conferences. with your way of thinking, they should just call the hart trophy the MVP trophy, the norris trophy the defenseman of the year trophy, etc. not that there's anything wrong with that, but to me, it takes away from the character of the game.
How can you hate the Hawks!? Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Kieth, Byfuglien and Seabrook! They're the most exciting team left in the playoffs! They play old school, fast, reckless passing game when everybody else plays the trap all the time because they aren't good enough to pull that shit off. The Hawks are great, damnit! Yous best recognize.

And if you all had your way they wouldnt allow anyone from the "new" teams to win the Norris or Hart trophy.
And say what you want about "bigger" markets. The Sharks sell out every game every season. How much bigger does it get than that? Same thing in Anaheim.
The whole antiquated idea of where teams should and shouldn't exist needs to stop it HAS to. Because it's bullshit. It's not like a team in a traditional city has any guarantee of making money. I doubt the Nordiques and Jets left Canadian cities because they were raking in huge dollars. And if the game of hockey is going to grow and get better it has to become main stream in non traditional cities. Like San Jose. Or Dallas or Tampa.
I 100% agree that if a team isnt making money in a city, any city, it should move. The Coyotes should be moved. probably to a Canadian city. Maybe Winnipeg can actually hold on to a team this time.
I understand all of the heritage. It's great. but you cant rest on that shit. You have to keep things moving forward WHILE appreciating the heritage. The weird thinking that somehow an original 6 finals would be good for hockey in general is nothing more than an opinion. Because I cant imagine how it'd ever be considered a fact. 35 years of watching and following hockey and I can say for myself that non of the original 6 teams have EVER been considered on my favorites lists. And I am most likely not alone in that. Assuming a true hockey fan automatically likes the original 6 is lame-o.
maybe if you were alive or possibly even old enough to remember when there were only 6...then maybe I'd get it.
some good footage in that doc.
