Building off of this, get your clear typeface, and figure out some sort of avatar. Think "reddit alien" here. The typeface can stay the same, the avatar gets periodic makeovers by the site members.

That way, there will be a unified, but different look every time.

a web site logo should be legible and prominent, right now the logo is easily overlooked. I think the site also definitely needs a more stylized header/homepage layout to stand apart.
    I occasionally make stuff. dilligaf.

However, I got to say that personally I would be cautious to set a goal of a new one every month, perhaps every other month would be more realistic for something like this, look at sites that have running design contests/challenges, the quality is always reverse-proportional to the frequency of winners. =) Considering people would be doing this in their spare time there could be some sort of prize for the winner, in form of a poster or discount, I'd certainly be up for it. =)

yup, i was going to type pretty exactly both of the above. smarties!

i really think that something needs to be consistent, a constant, if you will (faraday!) and then have different designers add their pizazzzlels to it. not as dull, but similarly to what google does for holidays, etc. you always know it's google. and, part of the idea of a brand is recognition. changing the font & lettering will be a nightmare for branding and just be...messy and not awesome.

even if just say a "GP" was the constant, like, GP being the logo and "gigposters.com" & possibly the background color or font changing, with or without additional desing/illustration elements. something to that effect.

but changing everything all of the time is branding freefall, even for a creative site like this one.

i LOVE love LOVE the way that "Gig Posters" looks on the Vol. 1 book cover, it's so rad. and it even reads OK small, like the little thumb to purchase the book at the top of the homepage. the problem with that as a the logo though, as tempting as that could be is that it would not work nearly as well in a one-color logo format. say, for t-shirts, you would be looking at a 3 color color at the minimum, etc. as a one color design it would be a bit of a mess and not very clean, clear, or as rad. sadly.
