The piece is a spoof on the book Atlas Shrugged. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson is being portrayed as one of the villains, James Taggart. With Taggart it was a railroad network and with Stephenson it is a fiber optic network, but the story is basically the same. The Steve Jobs lecture at the end could be lifted almost verbatim from Atlas Shrugged (with a few extra "fucks" thrown in for good measure).
