two itunes questions
One - I like to sometimes rename/catalogue crap that comes in bundled CDs - ie - two CDs on one, then I split them up and give them their proper name and artwork in itunes. I have one where all the songs were reassigned except one which is one of the lead tracks of an LP, throws errthing off. If I try to "get info" errthing is not editable and if I try to "convert id3 tags I get a write protected message.
Two - some of the songs I have in itunes aren't transferred properly to the ipod. example - the Misfits aren't seen in the band listing on the ipod and I can only find through album title - OOF. Thanks kids, an old guy

right-click on song title (you can do multiple selections at once to save time), choose "get info", click "info" tab, change album title, band name, song name, genre, etc, there.

Also make sure it isn't a labeled as a compilation album or it won't show up under artists

compilations are labeled via a checkbox at get info>info tab
