Drop it in some hot hot water and it will soften the vinyl up. Should pop right off without tearing.

And how do you pop it back in? Would it be easy to just push it back in without putting it in hot water again?

i didn't take anything apart----didn't have the guts---it seemed really solid and i had doubts i would get it back together. i used spraypaint so getting the hard to reach places wasn't too bad---squirt

You can just pop them back in or use a hair dryer to warm it up.
