the title/and central shape in the painting reference "Hatrack" is a Marcel Duchamp sculpture.

for me the hatrack shape represents art historical importance/relevance, and is rendered in such a way as to make it seem "artificial" or "unreal"(almost no texture, rudimentary shape, basic play doe colors, placement in forest as a ufo). The art world has changed over the last 50 years drastically, and hope for historic relevance with ones artwork is still there, but no longer seems "real" in this postmodern, "everythings been done" climate. Thus the shape represents this hope/desire, but its rendered as a representation(painting) of a representation(photo) of a representation(play doe sculpture) of an existing artwork (duchamp's hatrack). In other words, its an illusion, the object and the ability to gain historical importance are in reality not there.

Email me at johnny at johnnycrap dot com and let me know what you want. I'll try to accomodate you.

This is an illustration for a shirt. Original art is 11x14 inches ink on bristol paper and below that is the photoshoped version of it for the shirt on black.

nice lines, Johnny.

here's something i just finished workin' on....not my usual style really. a bit too much virtual airbrush but what the hell...it's all practice for future work. anyway, it's supposed to be Rihanna swingin' an umbrella. the sketch version is the one i like the most...her jawline could still be a bit thinner, though. (i hadn't actually heard of her until my client asked me to draw her) enjoy!

I'm diggin' the light and shadow in your first take.
Rihanna was one of Jay-Z's first Def Jam signings.

Marcel Duchamp rules. Great paintings. Amazing detail.
