    Yeah, It's a thin birch panel mounted on a wood frame. I love working on that too. The surface is really slick. That one was primed with clear gesso. Another thing that I discovered lately and that I really like.

    A good alternative would be PVA size. I know a few companies make it, but the ones that are coming to mind are Utrecht and Gamblin. Really soupy milky color, but it's completely synthetic and does everything that rabbits skin glue will, directly from the bottle. It basically just seals up the wood or canvas, whatever you're painting on. Great for wood panels.
