I use a the multiply layer technique mainly. I never dick with the channels. Not sure how the channel way works ant better or even any differently than the Multiply way. Please to esplain?

I've been coloring professionally for 16 years.

For straight pencil pages, instead of setting up the "lineart" in a channel like I do for inked work, I set it up as a multiply layer, and as my top layer, then I add all the special effects on layers on top of that. Like the wind blown snow, etc... like on this pic.

What I usually do is have multiples of the pencil layer on top of my art. some of these layer I colorize with the hue/saturation tool to make one a warm color and one a cold layer.

then I just go thru the layer modes til the shadows become saturated with a cold color and the highlight or mid tones get a warm saturation.

Its real quick and easy and can drasticlly alter the feel of the colored piece.

also try taking a layer that is complete a single color, lets say red and set it to overlay, hue or color (any for that matter) and see what it does to the atmoshereic quality. sometimes it can really unify a hectic color palette. try adjusting the transaparentcy once you like the color effect.

I'll post a process thread next week with actual modes and levels.
