Dang Andy, what a treasure.
Back when we were first looking at the house we now own, I went up in the attic and discovered loads of this stuff... the previous (deceased) owner had been a wwii naval vet.
I found among other things photo albums from his time in the Pacific aboard a cruiser... action shots, kamikaze attacks, crazy stuff like that, that must have been unauthorized to shoot at the time. When we bought the house, his brother (the seller) said, "OK, I'll just go clear out a bunch of junk" and I tried to persuade him, 'No, we'll clean up, don't worry about it..." But he went in and got most of his brothers wwii stuff.
Was good enough to leave me piles of Life, Saturday evening post, and Look! magazines from the era... "Japs Bomb Pearl Harbor" and stuff like that.
