I think you have avery valid point about the American artists building up an infrastructure, that we don't have here. It's a tricky one, and it's not something that has any easy, or indeed quick answers. The poster scene in the US, has obviously been building up and establishing itself in the US for a long time.
I've not really got time to type up a vast response at the moment, but i will say that you have some good points, that do need to be addressed.
As for that money thing, it really is dependant of each individual case. Personally, i work for myself, the cost of attending Flatstock is a pretty big deal when i have to wonder where the next payday is comming from. I'm pretty sure there will be other people who are in a simlar situation, who cannot justify that sort of expence. Without knowing peoples spacific situation it's pretty difficult to comment of their decission to attend or not. Personally i'm going and hoping to cover costs and hopefully not lose out too much, and get a few days away with some good friends.
