My favorite covers:
Check Your Head:
A number of you don't need me to tell you how dope a photographer Glen E. Friedman is. That shot is iconic to me.
The big thing here for me is
Haze's handstyle, which is all over this release, and a number of pieces related to the album (including the
Skills to Pay the Bills home video and the
Pass the Mic maxi-single). I was a casual graf head before this, but this album showed me just how much someone's handwriting can be captivating. I scanned the cassette release over and over the way some folks would gaze at album gatefolds. This design as influenced me big time,
especially here.
Which Doobie U B?:
Glenn Barr became one of my favorite painters because of this album. This cover was head and shoulders above most of the stuff I was listening to. It perfectly captures the sleazy fun of Funkdoobiest's first release. Glenn can draw hot chicks in his sleep.
