well, Pinups is a crap covers album. Diamond Dogs has some crap on it but mostly really good. Heroes... the 2nd side isn't rock'n'roll but it's got that cool, ambient Eno thing happening. matter of taste, I sppose. kind of experimental for the time, esp for a big artist. lots of his songwriting was mostly really interesting and cool.

in the 70s, Bowie was kind of an anomaly in that he was a "star" but also cutting edge. nowadays it seems you can be mainly one OR the other.
