technically, yeah. but as far as i've seen, and granted, i've only messed with it once, you can still cue up your mp3s well in advance, and beat match them through the program. so you're basically using the 'record' as a play button, although you can still pull them back, or scratch or whatever. you can choose the option to also have the needle drop 'move' on the tune the same way it moves on the record, or have it pause and pick back up on the song where it left off, controlled by the needle drop, regardless of it's placement on the 'record'.
i'm sure there's all kinds of other things you can do with it, too.
