From a 3rd party point of view:
The texture on the 'X' works for fireworks.
However, the texture doesn't fit the band, the music, or the attitude.
If you want to pull an "X" card and say that's it??
heh heh
as a fan of big bold simple typography, i like it. i'd be more prone to frame and hang this than alot of other stuff i've seen recently AND I know exactly who the poster is for.
What's to like? It does exactly what the poster series organizer specifically asked artists NOT to do, not to mention the fact that a poster design doesn't get much more uninspired than this.
I like a lot of Powerhouse's work, and I know I'm busting their balls here, but come on...from a creative standpoint, this is just plain lazy.
Does it advertise the show effectively? Yeah, but if that's all that matters, every poster would look like an admat with a pic of the band.
If this was the first, or even the 20th time this had been done for X, I could understand a little applause for minimalistic creative genius. That is however not the case.
Deadline pressure? Out of time, had to put something together on short notice? Whatever. You gotta push the envelope a little harder than this, ad you wouldn't need to pull an all-nighter to do it. This gets an F. Disappointing. Not only does X deserve better, ANY band deserves better.
