This was never used for promo and is consequently not really a GIGPOSTER in the strict sense used here. It was sold at the concert as a commemorative, and offered later by the band's website and mail order merchandise company.
i'm not even going to rise to the bait this time, DOH! okay now i'm here, the robert johnson and commemerative poster issue. the sticks and arrows seem to be coming from the direction of folks who feel that bands, artistes, the cleaning lady at the studio, and the janitor are being ripped off and having money stolen from them if someone does a "fake" poster, in this case, and i'm only referring to this case, the posters are of old gigs, pre 1975. so we have new posters "commemorating" old gigs, posters that weren't there before and have been made into a reality for people to decorate their walls with. now, if someone (me for example) as produced one of these posters and is selling them (i've sold TWO robert johnson posters) how are they taking money out of someone elses pocket? do led zeppelin have to pay out money somewhere because a poster of them exists? where? who do they pay this money to? how are they LOSING money? okay maybe they've got their own official posters on the market and competition may possibly effect sales, but still, they haven't actually paid any money out have they? they've paid to get the posters printed but surely the sale prices would cover that no problem, i doubt a guy printing up a couple of hundred posters would really affect them that much. robert johnson, as far as this one was concerned, i had the finger pointed at me for being tasteless in my wanton pillaging of johnson's soul and creating my very own gold mine that consists of me lying on the beach in rio sipping bloody marys and getting sand in my butt, all on the back of selling copies of a picture i did of robert johnson once. to those who challenge my morals or my reasons for doing a poster of robert johnson, then ask urself what david lynch's motivations were for making a film about john merrick, a man far more hard done by than robert johnson; what about britney spears covering joan jett? what about every single time u tape the latest rock pop hits off ur best buddy? its the same goddam thing! if u don't like my posters then don't buy them,if u do then put them on the wall and have a joint, THE END.
it's a "commemorative" gigposter? is this a whole new category of 'fake' gigposter? i like it! i'm going to do "commemorative" gigposters for my favorite Beatles concerts, like the rooftop concert, or the hollywood bowl. i think i might knock out a few altamont 'commemorative" gigposters, as well. how about a robert johnson "commemorative" gigposter? i could sella bunch of those!!!
..always assumed this was a commemorative piece for the Fuji Rock Festival in 1999 which Phish played..woodcut on hemp paper..Ltd Edtn 1500.
