I think the arrows represent the "Indifference Of the Subconscious". Faced with the post-modern "Crisis Of Meaning", the rational mind is "amputated" by "proliferating options" that assault like a shit storm of possibility. In this scenario, man's free will is crippled (paralyzed) by a (no-win) conundrum dressed up as so-called "Freedom Of Choice".
