no no, there are just odd choices with the type that seem on the surfaces to be very random and unplanned but that really make the poster and give it an interesting quality. Breaking the black border with spoon, the stamped quality of the supporting type.
these dudes have really cool type ideas and that in this one they can make that type come off so casual yet oddly compelling.
I like the poster but don't exactly follow what Dusty's saying on the type. Is it because the type looks relatively normal in comparison to the strange image?
It does have that polish poster feel that I like so much.
I dont like the image all that much, not bad, but just not super strong. What i love is the type. It's off enough, tweaked enough, strange enough to carry the poster to a pretty strange place.
Just some interesting decisions goin on. Thumbs up.
Yeah, I'm not saying I don't get the Joel comparison at all I just think it's an oversimplified look at things. For one thing you always know what Billy Joel is talking about and with Britt Daniel it's way more cryptic.
I've had this argument/conversation a couple times with people, I'll just agree to disagree.
I've heard other songs that have strong keyboards and horns, an East Coast Storyteller vibe and phrasing of a younger Billy Joel. Not just "The Underdog." Check out "I Summon You" from Gimme Fiction. While the other music from them maybe be in stark contrast to this, the popular shit that gets played on the radio sounds like Billy Joel. Sorry, but it's true.
"Spoon sounds like a hipster version of Billy Joel."
Christ, I like Billy Joel so I certainly don't think of it as an insult but it's what everybody says after they hear "the underdog" and it's mainly because of the horns which are all over the new album. I get why Billy Joel comes to mind from that song but to say that Spoon sounds like Billy Joel in general is ridiculous if you've actually listened to a Spoon album. . . .and heard a few Billy Joel songs.
1982 is a deadly tag team. They choke opponents with the tag rope when the ref's back is turned n' shit.
All the posters for this tour have been so different from each other. If were to ever do one, I'd probably only be able to draw from the "Soft Effects" EP and whatever I've heard from "Kill the Moonlight" and "Gimme Fiction".
Great colors on top of a really cool image. It is kind of weird how the border breaks up on the top right around the text but that is just nitpickin'. I can dig it.
