And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning, E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose.
He said, "You are the Chosen One, the One who will deliver the message. A message of hope for those who choose to hear it and a warning for those who do not."
"fuck ive seen here personally someone say how much a band loved thier poster.. and literally a week later i was talking to the actual band.. giving them a poster.. and they commented on a poster they thought was retarded..
people can be polite.. then there are people like me."
Ha, i've heard the same thing many times.
I was backstage at a show and I asked the band if they had ever told a poster artist that they liked a poster when they really didn't and they were like..."are you gonna do that line"?
fuck ive seen here personally someone say how much a band loved thier poster.. and literally a week later i was talking to the actual band.. giving them a poster.. and they commented on a poster they thought was retarded..
people can be polite.. then there are people like me.
bands TOTALLY at times say they like something.. ive followed up in the past in some instances for an artist, "hey you told us you thought it was one of the best designs youve seen".. the band passed completely.. on more than one occasion.
Looks like it was newly carved specifically. I never remember seeing that block. The bottom blocks are magnesium from the looks of it, the top is linocut.
but what do i know.
looks like my original comment disappeared...? anyway supposedly the band DID like this and want hatch to do more posters for them... this was said to me directly by the designer (who is not an intern) and no the designer is not me. and yes the interns at hatch do a fair amount of ass kicking... myself often included. (narcissism, anyone?)
most of the interns there are kick ass at design and print making. Also, this poster is for live nation, it will not be used for promo at all, only for distribution amongst everyone that worked on the show, and the band. Not for sale anywhere but in hatch. Not that that makes a different but Hatch does about 4 jobs a week for the music center, and all they really care about is their logo placement.
I did a sammy hagar poster for them at hatch and all they cared about on the proof was where the logos where, even though the date was completely wrong.
a good number of the summer posters are designed by interns, this could have been some ones first poster. any of the large gothic faces would have faired much better.
"This was the day before my birfday...ummmm, that's all I've got to say really."
this WAS my birthday, and I got bit by ants, green ones as a matter of fact. Weirder still, they escaped when I knocked over my ant farm. Then I used the ant killing tool that I got for my birthday and killed them all.
then I coated them with chocolate and ate them.
So, I think this poster is kind of symbolic.
"ColonelCash: ...most of their fans are creepy (like bugs) so it fits perfectly."
this seems like it should be advertising an ant exhibit at the local childrens museum. the magical world of ants! maynard may like bugs, but aesthetically this is way off. the text kills it, might as well have used comic sans. i dunno, i would have never thought this was a hatch print.
Just got off the phone with my friend Jen that works at Hatch. She confirms that it is a Hatch print. Printed for Live Nation which the rep. says that Maynard loves bugs and that he will love this.
I was actually being critical of the GP "criticism" more so than the poster.
The poster really doesn't draw me one way or the other.
I hope everyone still "likes" me!
"ColonelCash: ...most of their fans are creepy (like bugs) so it fits perfectly."
So, creepy means a green ant and Cooper Black? I don't buy it. I normally really like Hatch Show stuff, but, to me as a creepy Tool fan, this misses the mark way wide.
I dont think most of us are trying to be assholes, just speaking wgat we think of the poster...criticism...thats what the comments are for arent they? I feel as tool has a harder edged sound thay also have a psychedellic side to them, as well as a dark side....This seems too playful for tool...everything from the font to the image.
I didn't foresee this many people being assholes about this print...For those who have ever been to a Tool concert, you should know that most of their fans are creepy (like bugs) so it fits perfectly.
Whatever Dave... everyone knows that It's OK when a poster "god" makes a shitty poster.
The shitty poster still RAWKS!
It's only offensive when bottom feeders make shitty posters.
oh, and i wasnt giving it a crit.. but whatever.. hatch is great.. but this in no way fits tool.. as for the fonts and whatever.. thats zachs responsibility..
the thing with Hatch is you get Hatch every time. so saying this ain't like Tool is kinda dumb, even though this really doesn't suit Tool. At all. it is Hatch though, and that's ok with me.
