I went to this show. Art gave me a copy of this poster and signed it "Brian, I saw you there" love that. If I remember right it was right after the 4th of July and a bunch of people were blowing off M80's and it was in the fucking Kingdome, the show blew but I was like 13 so I would go to any show I could.
i did this poster for the people who managed HEART (albatross productions) who had begun promoting shows. it was about 1982. i figured (stupidly) that once they saw how good i was that they'd hire me to do record covers for heart. pretty naieve. this was the only poster i did for them (i believe). they thought it cost too much (one color? these folks were multi-millionaires back when it was real money) so, i was out. besides, they made me put their (awful) logo at the top and real big (it was at the bottom slightly smaller, and the top was left blank. looked WAY better), and sorta ruined the design. so what else is new, huh?
in 1982, these bands were all jokes (even joan jett). the show bombed. if you ever get associated with a bomb, the guy who did the poster always gets this stigma that never quite goes away. it took me a long time to erase it.
but it was a great image. the merging of babe ruth with a les paul was seemless and looked way good.
