The placement of the type is fine. You need that to create the detachment feel. The problem is that the tree is so loose and organic that the block of type justified feels out of place. It would've been cool to see the type loosly placed and maybe emphasis on "THE END" Just a thought. Illustration is fantastic!
I know what bothers me about the font - it reminds me of the crappy built-in fonts that came with printers in the late 80's. Or the sort of thing the computer picks to replace fonts you don't have installed on your computer.
8 o'clock is good for $4 coffee at the grocer.
I make sure to kill those beans first. then add purified water. this poster is pretty much the same as a million other tree posters with centered type. the coffee on the other hand is fantastic.
the type represents the bridge of crossing between the living and the afterlife, the typestyle choice shows the stoic nature of a life spent sheltering others (the birds)... the tree's ascent is it's natural purpose in life... trees grow up, towards the heavens as if to reach up and caress the face of God... while remaining rooted on the earth and it's complications. The text represents a crossing over... a freeing of life's problems... hold it... man... I need some coffee...
it's a nice illo... all of this is ridiculous...
Well unless he peals the bark back that tree it'll come back . The part the birds are flying away with , it's dead . Nothing touches the coffee in Spain ,top notch
I like the poster
wow, i'm not sure i've read comments declaring type too big on a poster before. i think the type size is balanced with the width of the tree, nor is it really too big...you know...for an advertisement for a band. there's nothing worse than miniscule and/or unreadable type on a poster.
overall i agree with danstiles.
the headline text works fine, its just the secondary stuff that needs a little work, its just needs to be visually seprated to increase hierarchy of information seperation. Smaller size / diffrnt font (sans? slab?).
Either way, its a fucking rad poster, keep up the good work.
Pretty sure the type needs work. It's been mentioned in just about everyone's comments.
I'd be willing to say just about any sans serif typeface at about 75% of this size would work much better. Don't print this with this font!
I love the illo, not crazy about the text. It doesn't have to be hand lettered, but a different font would've put this one over the top. Still a good poster, though.
I think the type needs to be exactly where it is. If it were at the bottom it would be just another illustration with a band name at the bottom. I might have worked the type a little differently, but the placement is good.
.let us not forget the point - to advertise some bands.
In deed...but it's not a billboard were you drive by at 55mph and need to get the info in a split sec. I always thought a poster was meant to get your attention then draw you in to read the fine detail.
anyway cool illustration.
this is a beautiful illustration. I just wish that the text wasn't so conspicuous; that it was smaller and at the bottom or something. But it's a great image anyway.
